Blue fronted amazon and lovebirds

Question
QUESTION: Is it or will it ever be safe for the two to be in close quarters together. I own a amazon and just recently aquired three lovebirds if it safe for them to be around each other eventually.

ANSWER: Yes.  As long as they don't share a cage, they can (and should) share a room.  They'll enjoy each others company.

Once the new birds are found disease free (a vet check is appropriate, at least to evaluate droppings for any parasites or infections) and quarentine for 30-60 days to be sure nothing in the way of illnesses shows up in the lovies - you can have one big, happy and probably noisey bird room.

Please see how we do this with ours  www.4AnimalCare.org

Just don't let the birds come in physical contact with each other. Not only is there too much potential for injury, but they may bond more with each other rather than you!

QUESTION: The lovebirds are 11-12 wks old should their wings be clipped?

Answer
Personally, I'm of the group that prefers a bird learn to fly and gain that confidence before having their wings clipped.  Others insist that early clipping without ever learning flight is just fine.

I let little ones learn to fly from a perch, just a short distance to my arm and then receive lots of praise.  I don't allow free flight in the house and then take it away with a clipping.

When the bird becomes more bold and less able to be controlled, a "baby wing clip" is done so they don't get as much lift or distance when they try to fly.
Then, after a couple months, a bit more of a clipping.

No bird should ever be so clipped that they thump to the floor if they try to fly.  The wing clip should just prevent lift and distance, but still allow them to gently glide to the ground if they are ever startled from or fall from their perch.

 Keep up the good work!!!
