Question
QUESTION: Hi, I was just given a parrot & know nothing about them I don't even know what kind of parrot it is, all I know it is green & can talk. (I raise Cockatiels)  Every time I get near it and talk to it, the parrot lowers its head and lifts its tail and starts pushing like its constipated or something, can you tell me why it is doing this? I know it is not afraid of me, it sings and talks but every other while it lowers its head and make pushing sounds.  Mary

ANSWER: Hi Mary!

Does it look anything like this?

This is a red lored amazon, there are many other types of amazons but they all have the primarily green body and are great talkers.

When he does this, does he lift his wings slightly?
What do his poops look like?
What is his diet like?
Has he been checked by an avian vet?

By the sounds of it, it is just a normal part of the courtship behavior.  his way of saying, "Hey I like you!"
Our Maggie (Bird in the picture)Does this all the time to me:)

If you have a picture I can help you to try and identify what species of parrot you have as well.

Sincerely
Danielle

QUESTION: Danielle,
Yes, it does look similar to your parrot except its all green except under its wings where they are a bright red.   And yes it does lift its wings slightly,  everything else looks fine.  Maybe it just needs a mate:)  Thanks for your help,  I'll take your advise on taking it to a avian vet, I didn't even think of that.  Thanks again, Mary

Answer
He could be a red winged parrot then?  Most amazons have a bit of yellow, blue or red around their face.  It is hard to tell without a picture though.
The behavior is just his way of letting you know that he likes you.  It is a good sign, he is bonded with you:)
I would definitely have him in to an avian vet for a check up though, just to be safe.  That way as well if ever their is an emergency you already have an established relationship with a good vet that you trust!
Congratulations and best of luck!  I am happy to help!
Sincerely
Danielle
