Question
QUESTION: Recently my friends and I where at our local pet store looking at rats. Ironically, a women came in with a baby mouse/rat (we don't know yet) that she found in the parking lot of a store. They thought that it had little chance of surviving, so they were gonna feed it to a snake. So we jumped at the chance and took him in.

I'm the only one allowed to keep it until it grows up to be on its own.

I had a long day and I wasn't thinking and I did something stupid. I was feeding Gibson(the mouse/ rat. We know it has little chance of surviving but we were tired of calling it "IT") and I accedently dropped Gibson. I was standing up on a hard wood floor.

I told my mom and my friends and they said Gibson should be fine. It was about an two hours ago this very moment. Gibson seems to be fine but Gibson had trouble standing up. About an hour and a half after the fall, Gibson started spazzing out, keeps twitching, curling up in a ball and had varius breathing patterns. I'm scared it might die from a stupid mistake that I made.

If there is anythin I could do to help, will you please let me know?

ANSWER: Hi Cory and Nick,
Is this a fancy rat from the pet shop. What will you do with it after it grows up. You can't let it back in the wild or it will die. It won't know how to find food. You have to find it or him a good home.
First, I would see if your mom will take him to the vet. There could be a lot of things that could cause your baby to be ill. If you mom won't take him to the vet, then try to find different small animal rescues on the phone. Sometimes people rescue small pets such as mice, hamsters, gerbils and rats. Someone has to see this baby and figure out what's wrong. Let me know how things turn out.

QUESTION: Well its not really from the pet store because the woman found it in the parking lot of a food store. She took it there cause she didn't want it to die, but they ended up trying to feed it to a snake. Its about 4 days old and its still living.

I don't know what I am going to do with it after it grows up. We we're actually thinking abou letting it go, but I'll tell them what you said.

Should I still take him to the vet even though he is so small and only four days old?

Answer
Yes, this poor baby must go to the vet. Is he still acting strangely? Go to this link and it will help you feed the mouse. Scroll down to "Hand Feeding" since this mouse will not be raised with other mice.

If your mother will not take the mouse to a vet, then perhaps, if you give it nutritious food, it might help.
If the mouse survives, then give it a good home. Mice make wonderful pets. Let me know what happens.
