Mice fighting

Question
Our male mice fight constantly with each other. The older male has chewed the ears off the younger male and also has chewed off the hair and skin on his hind end just above his tail -- wound is size of a nickel. We have separated them. There is also a third male that fights with both of the others, he is the brother of the wounded mouse. We don't know how to stop the fighting.  The three are in 3 different containers that won't work in our house.
Will they ever be able to live together?

Answer
It looks like these mice will have to live alone from now on. It is too much of a risk to introduce them back to one another. Once male mice reach sexual maturity they can and will fight. Sometimes even to the point of leaving severe permanent damage to another, and even death. Mature male mice should be housed seperately to avoid fighting. It it safer for them, and a lot less stressful. If you cannot keep them seperated I would suggest finding them homes where they can live alone, or you can also try neutering them. Neutered males usually get along fine, but it is up to you whether or not you want to invest that amount of money just to keep them all together. And that doesn't always work to curb agressive behavior. I've had a lot of success introducing neutered males to one another, but I've also heard of situations where the fighting still did not improve. I hope you can find a safe situation for these little ones. Good luck! :)
