Im introducing a new hermit crab

Question
Back again for another question! lol.

My PP Neelix is starting to get a little bit inactive and I'm sure its because he has no tank-mates. I finally convinced my mom that my crab needs a buddy or two now and I waited awhile to see how he does alone like we promised. I'm thinking of introducing a ruggie and I'm a little confused from all the different information on the web of how to do it.
I already know how to pick a healthy crab, and I think I could tell which species is which at my local pet stores. I'm just not sure what do to when I bring it home.

One site recommended I first wash the new crab and closely inspect it for anything that might harm Neelix and his home. Another site said I should dunk both the crabs in the same water so they smell the same or something, and then a while ago I remember reading that I should rearrange the tank and put both crabs in at the same time so they can meet and then claim their own territory's.

Which is true and what else should I do?

Answer
The important thing to do is ISO your new crab for a couple of weeks to watch for mites and get the adjusted. Often they need a good diet for a few weeks to make them feel comfortable and it will make them less competitive. I do give new crabs a bath before introducing themto my main tank. This is the only time my crabs get baths except during a deep clean.

Rearranging the tank is also a good idea. If you have bathed them together you don't need to dunk them in the waterbowl but it is a good way to reduce aggression if there is any.
