Question
Hi. Ive had my two of my three crabs for five monthes now and i adopted my third one about three monthes ago. Two are ecudorian and the new one is a purple claw. One of my e-crab ( the smallest) has been getting big for his shell but i cant seem to find the perfect size and he wont change. Coming into my room this evening I noticed that he was completely out of his shell. And he was very inactive. I dipped him in dechlorinated water and then I placed him in a small habitat with no substrate a dish of water and four other shells(one of which is his original) He doesnt seem to be doing anything, and hardly wont move? is he ill? was i correct in not puttinh any substrate in the tank? i read what to do at a website awhile ago...but unsure! help please.

Answer
It sounds like you've done a lot already (none of it bad). Although my biggest worry for your ISO setup is humidity. Especially without his shell it's crucial to keep the humidity and temp in a good range. You can try forcing him into a shell by placing his butt end into one and then gently tapping him on the armor plate just behind the eyes. This is a bit controversial but will often work on a confused crab.
