Question
I've had two purple-claw hermit crabs for almost a week. I started researching on-line to know all I could. This morning I found a claw laying beside one of them. I created it an isolation tank and checked in through the day. Its had a lighter color and I read that it was a sign of molting. I came home after a few hours and it had clear, suddsy bubbles in its shell. Of course I panicked because I had not read anything about the bubbles. I squeezed some water from the sponge into its shell to rinse it out. Did I hurt it by doing that is it doomed? and is there anything I can do to help now?

Answer
The water wouldn't hurt it if it was dechlorinated water. Bubbling is usually a sign of over heating. Crabs very rarely survive once they've gotten to that point. What is the temperature/humidity in your tank? Do you have water pools keep enough for your crabs to climb into them and soak water into their shells?
