Question
I recently inherited a hermit crab.  He is 5 years old and had always been alone.  Would it be safe to introduce another hermit crab to his crabitat?  I don't want to cause him any undue stress since he has lived this long by himself.  I have a 10 gallon fish tank that I have converted to a hermie tank.  Thank you.

Answer
they should be fine. Give them both a quick dip in the water bowl before you introduce them. Keep an eye on them at first. Shoving, chirping, and antennae waving are all really normal. But it is rarely an issue. Make sure you've got a lot of extra shells and I would offer your long time resident some shrimp or silversides the night before you bring the new one home.
