Questionwe've had our 2 little guys for 6 days their crabitat it perfect, moisture and food-everything is right. they were really active the first few days, now only one comes out, the other stays hidden deep in the subtrate, not completely covered. i checked him gently to see if he was molting but he pinched me so hard that it shocked me and i dropped him! he landed in the soft subtrate. but what's going on? are they just adjusting to the new 'house'?
AnswerIt is not unusual for crabs to hide their first few days or weeks home from the pet store to de-stress. I would recommend lowing your humidity to around 70% to help them transition. But yes, give them time to acclimate to the tank.
I will also state that some crabs never get use to being handled and even after they become active in the tank, they may not get use to being handled and try to pinch.
