my crab has become a nudist

he has lived alone for about a year now his first friend didnt like him so it died the second one he ate when it multed and so he has been alone seince. i put him in the window a few hours each day for some sun but yesterday when i went to check on him he didnt have any shell on so i stuck him in the dark with all the shells that i have for him even his favorite that is getting kinda snug for him he was left alone overnight and today i just went and checked on him he is alive but wont put on a new shell what can i do im worried about him. do i need to go and get more shells??

More shells will help. Try gently picking him up andplacing him into his favorite shell...use caution because his end has all the organs. That is pretty much all you can do. What you have done so far is incredible. The only thing you can do is place him into a shell and see if he stays...oh, and try to put a little bit of water in there so he can have humidity in his shell...just a little bit though.
