hermit crab is he dead?

Please respond quickly.  My brothers hermit crab it hanging half way out of his shell and not moving at all.  I notice they were out of water after being gone for one evening. I cannot tell if my brothers has died or not. Its not moving at all and I think it smells.  My mom cannot smell anything. What do I do?  Please help

If it smells liked dead fish then your crab is probalby gone. If the smell is a more chemical smell or no smell there is a chance that he is molting. Is he your only crab? Can you wait awhile and see, if he moves. It's frustrating but a molting crab can look very much like a dead one, the smell is the only give away and not all dead crabs have it.
