Dead or Molting?

I have a Ecuadorian hermit crab and 3 purple pinchers in a 10 gallon tank and i noticed lately my Ecuadorian has been in the corner of the tank under a little bit of substrate and today i came home and saw its eyes like he was awake but when i walk bye it usually it pops back in it shell and hides from my shadow and it didn't and it didn't move at all and i wasn't sure if it was molting so i put some substrate and wet it and picked up the hermit and put it in it and I'm not sure if its dead or molting.

Well does the crab smell? Most times a dead crab will have a smelly fishy odor!If you pick it up  and it is dead most likely it will fall out of the shell....make sure you look in the shell to make sure it did not surface molt! Try to go to www.hermitcrabaddiction.net
