Question
I read that they are born in the ocean.  How do they survive until they
reach land (the beach)?ux7k7

Dear Burt,
thankj you for your question.
The females hurl the eggs into the ocean from the beach and when they hatch, the larvae (zoea) live for some time as part of the plankton. Many of them get eaten at that stage of life.  After about three months and several different stages, the hermit crab will move into its first shell and start to live on land.
