gender of my hermit

The clerk told me that I could tell the gender by their claw... is this true? If not would you tell me how to tell me how to find out? I was also told they can only reproduce,buy having sea salt?

No it is not true about the gender. The only way to determine gender is the presence or absence of gonopores.

Crabs, to date, have not reproduced in captivity. However, all crabs need ocean style salt water as well as fresh water. Here's a list of their most basic needs.
