temperature/humidity

Question
hello, i just bought my first three hermit crabs today! i have them in a ten gallon tank with 1-2" of calcium sand, water dishes with sponges (2), and uth made for a 10-20 gallon tank, a thermometer/humidity level gauge, a screen top (suggested by the pet store) covered in saran wrap (a trick i read online). I am having trouble getting the temperature to rise above 68 and the humidity seems to be all over the place. I just moved the uth from the side of the tank to the bottom so it is under the substrate (on the outside of the tank). I was looking for help/tips on how to better control the temperature/humidity with what i have or another uth, different top, lighting, or a humidifier. thank you so much!

Answer
Try a low wattage sunglo bulb (from the petstore) in a clamplight sitting on top of the tank. Make sure they have ways of getting out of the sun.

I have not had a lot of luck with calcium sand, it tends to clump and stink when wet, I prefer fiber bedding or playsand or a mix.

Damp fiber bedding or natural moss will help you maintain your humidity. Here's an article about natural moss from my website.
