new molt

Question
I'm new at this....having 2 hermit crabs put into my care.   i changed the gravel they were in to sand and this started the molting process i think.  the smaller one kept digging ending up under the water bowl (after i realized she wanted the sand to be wet) she has molted...doing fine.  The larger one has molted on top of the sand-not having enough sand to bury herself i realize now. I read they usually stay buried for a month. should i do anything? i understand she's tired and probably won't start eating the eco for couple of days. is she ok just laying on the top?

Answer
Connie, Definitely keep them on sand. Sometimes crabs have tough molts. I would keep him misted so his surrounding sand stays moist. You can make a hole for her and put her in but, if you are going to do that I would put a terracotta flower pot or half of one even so she can get some privacy and put the and inside there a couple inches deep. Good Luck, Tina
