Question
QUESTION: Hi Miss Lola,
Sorry to disturb you again but i have a really important question. one of my crab just died today. I found it out of its shell. I really don't know what caused the death. I gave all my crabs perfect care. Some say they come out of their shell because they are stressed. Ever since i bought this crab, it has been really unsociable and doesn't eat much. What do you think caused its death and how do you think i can avoid this problem. Sorry for the questions

ANSWER: Sorry it took so long but it's a holiday weekend.

Don't be sorry! That's what I'm here for!

How long had you had the crab?

Can you answer these questions for me?

What is your substrate? Humidity? and Temp?

What kinds of water do they get?

This will help me get you a better answer.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: 1)How long had you had the crab?
We had the crab for a year

2)What is your substrate? Humidity? and Temp?
The substrate is the beach type sand from Japan. The average humidity is 65.( It gets a little hot here in Asia).

3)What kinds of water do they get?
They get sea salt water and also normal dechlorinated water.

By the way. can we determine if the hermit crab is dead by looking at its eyes whether is it closed or not.

Answer
you say the humidity is 65 but refer to the climate as hot. The temp and humidity are two different things. Either way the average temp/humidity need to be between 74 and 82. A low humidity will kill your crab eventually because it's hard for them to breath.

The best way to determine if a crab is dead is by the dead fish smell or long term (weeks) lack of movement.
