moss for hermit crabs

Question
I live in the Sierra Foothills in northern California and there is lots of beautiful bright green moss on the oak trees in my yard. Would this be a safe thing to put in my crab enclosure? I'm not sure what kind it is, but it grows all over this area.

Answer
Hmmm, it's hard to say without seeing what the moss looks like. Sheet moss, natural moss, hiawatha moss are all okay. Most mosses are. Spanish moss isn't though.

The only thing to keep an eye on is mold and bugs. Now, most bugs can be beneficial but anytime you bring things in from outside you run the risk of hitchhikers.
