QuestionI bought my hermie at the beach this year in the Outer Banks. I immediately came home and bought him the equipment to set up a real nice house for him....But all he does is burrow into the sand/coconut bedding by the under tank heat mat. I have sticks for him to climb on, but he does not such thing..I always see him burrowed deep by the heat mat. I know he is eating well....the food is disappearing and occasionally he has decided to switch shells for some random reason. I know that another crab purchased from the same spot hangs out on sticks and is more apparent and lively. What is wrong with my crabby? I have the heat/humidity set well....but is he not getting enough light? I have him inside the house next to the entertainment center, it is a bit dark there......but the best spot to keep him due to set up of house. What can I do to encourage him to come out and be social more?
AnswerYour best option right now is to get him a good dayglo light. Match the wattage to the gallons of your tank. So a 40 gallon tanks would use a 30-45 watt lamp. You will be amazed at the difference in activity. You say that your temp/humidity is good, just a double check to make sure it's between 74 and 82. This is the most common reason for inactivity.
