Why wont my hermit crab come out of his shell?

Hi my name is Britney my hermit crab Jo will not come out of his shell and i am getting to wonder why? I have 4 other hermit crabs and all of them come out but not Jo. I dont know what to do. I also have 1 other question how often should I clean my hermit crabs cages?

Sometimes hermit crabs are just shy. Try enticing him out with some fresh unseasoned popcorn or peanut butter. Warm up some raw coconut until it smells really pleasant. That should help get him moving a little.

As for cleaning out your cage it depends on the size of the cage and how many crabs you have. If you have 5 crabs, say in a 10 gallon, you should clean it every 6 months or so.
