QuestionI read your suggestion about giving the crabs maple leaves and I was wondering if dried leaves would offer any nutritional value. I live in central New York where fresh maple leaves aren't available for several months. Also, does it matter if it is a sugar maple or a red maple? Thanks!
AnswerThe variety of maple doesn't matter and I've certainly offered dried and they seem to enjoy it. I think that they would feed on leaf litter on the forest floor so it's logical that it offers some nutrition and I believe that tannin is always there. I often put bags of leaves in the freezer to get me through winter.
Good luck!
