molting and tank conditions

Question
My son brought home 2 hermit crabs from school about 2 months ago.  At that time we bought a "hermit crab kit" which consists of a tank with rocks, a hut, a sponge, a water dish, and food.  In addition, I have been putting salt in the tank every once in a while and I have been spraying down the tank to make the conditions humid enough.
The other day my son picked up one of the crabs, and he fell out of his shell.  In a panic I quickly helped him back in his shell and put him in the tank.  Later that night it appeared he was all he way in his shell and he had shed alot of his skeleton.(I assume he is molting).  Now he is still in the same spot and on top of the rocks.  In addition, the other crab keeps going over to him.
My question is, Are these conditions okay for him to molt?  Is there something I can do to help him or make him more comfortable?  Should I put sand in the tank or move him to another tank away from the other hermit crab?
This is all new to me and some expert advise would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
If he has shed his exoskeleton he needs to be separated from the other crab who will try to eat it.

For basic guidelines of how to set up your tank you can review the article I have on my website.
