eggs

Question
one day after i bought my hermit crab i notice a spot on the outside of his shell that looks like a big drop of glue dried up it has a bunch of little spots in it. i was told it was eggs . what is it?

thank you for your question.
It might have been. Sometimes gravid females are harvested and they will usually just drop their eggs. That may be how the eggs got onto the shell of the crab, if it walked through them or ate them, normally the eggs are carried under the female's belly. It's very rare that the eggs hatch and only two persons have ever succeeded in raising the zoea (one team of scientists and one private owner). Here are pictures of hermit crab eggs:

By the way, do you have only one crab? They are very social and should be kept kept at leastin small groups of three to five crabs.
