Hermit Crabs not active

Question
Hey, I recently got two new hermit crabs after not having any for a year and noticed that these new ones don't seem to be as active as my previous crabs. When i 1st brought them home they crawled around but now they just bury themselves in their dirt. I was thinking maybe it was because they are about to switch shells because they are a little big for their shells or because their flooring i guess its called is a dirt type mixture instead of sand..could it be they don't like the feeling of the dirt? These are the 1st hermit crabs i have had that haven't been active, and the 1st hermit crabs i have had that live on a dirt type substance (you put it in water and it keeps moisture). Could it be the dirt stuff?

Answer
No, cocofiber is a popular choice and it is, in fact, what I use in my 90 gallon terrarium. My recommendation to you is to check your temperature and humidity and make sure they are in the 74-82 range and see that you are offering them fresh and salt water for bathing.

They could be destressing or they could be reacting negatively to their environment. If your humidity is on the higher end of the spectrum, try bringing it down to 70 and slowly raising it every few days. Sometimes the crab becomes acclimated to the lower humidity and has a hard time transitioning.
