Question
i have two hermit crabs but the only thing i have is an old birdcage i put a lot of sand some climbing stuff wood shells and of course dechlorined water and food is this okay

Answer
It depends on the climate you live in. Hermit crabs needs temperature and humidity in the 74-82 range. The also are very vunerable when exposed to rust. So if it is a metal birdcage it may rust due to the moisture from the water. They need fresh and ocean style salt water.

They really need a tank. Check your local garage sales, freecycle and craigslist. A cracked tank is okay for crabs and lots of times fish people have one to get rid of!
