QuestionHI! I just got two hermit crabs less than a month ago. Both are a little less than the size of a golf ball, and one seems to be digging a lot. I tried to read up as much as i could on hermit crabs on the web, but i'm a little confused since different sites have different answers. The one that is a little bigger seems to be molting, i think, but i don't know what i should do for him. I have a fairly small tank, about a foot and a bit long, and i've only provided one bowl of water, but some sites say i should include a saltwater bowl, is that true? should i use sponges in the bowls? they don't seem to eat a lot, maybe about a spoonful of food a week. I'm worried about a molt. Do i need to seperate my two crabs? How long will the molting last? do they eat while molting? any other additional information would be greatly appreciated.
AnswerI separate mine when they molt. Yes give them saltwater it is essential for some species. Based on their size you don't need a sponge unless it is for humidity. That is the average amount of food they eat. My favorite site for hermit crab info is hermit-crabs.com
Sorry about the late response my computer crashed!
