Lost Big Claw, HELP!

Question
We have recently bought four hermit crabs, and they have been getting along great. This morning, I went to check in on the crabs. I found the two bigger crabs in their normal "Hermie Hut" and then I found mine, the smallest one, in there with them. It never goes in there because it is smaller than the rest, so I moved it. They were sleeping in their normal huts in the afternoon, so then we went to the pool. Two hours later when we came back, the smallest crab had been, well I guess, attacted by the biggest or, one of the bigger crabs. The smallest crab is missing half of it's big claw. Can you tell me what I should do, and what you think happened? Thanks!

Answer
Dear Kirsten,
thank you for your question.
Attacks by other crabs are very unusual, normally they will only fight for shells and only with crabs of the same size and even that is rare. If you really have a bully crab, I recommend separating the bully with another crab of the same size from the group. Adding another crab that is even bigger than the bully often helps and stops the aggressions.
If you are not sure which crab attacked the small one, separate him, but get him some friends so that he isn't lonely. It's possible that he will drop the rest of the claw sometime in the future, he will be able to regrow it during his next molt.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
