lost a claw

My son's crab just lost its large claw.   He is house with another crab.  Should I separate them or keep them together?   And how long until it grows back.   What can I do in the meantime to calm my son's fear--he thinks his crab is going to die?

Crabs drop limbs because they are under some sort of stress. You need to check to make sure you have the following parameters set up.

Sand/coconut fiber bedding substrate deep enough to bury in.
Temperature and humidity between 74 and 82
salt and fresh water pools deep enough to get their shell opening into
