defender claw

i bought a new hermit and his defender claw is about as big as the claw he uses to eat. will it get bigger and will he still be able to proect himself?

thank you for your question.
It's possible that he has dropped the defender claw a while ago, legs and claws grow back smaller than before. But they will continue to grow at every molt and your crab's claw will reach normal size soon. He will have no problems with the smalelr claw until then.
