Question
QUESTION: OK i got 2 hermit crabs on December 18, 2009.I know or I've been told that new hermit crabs are stressed for about 4 weeks but its January 26,2010 and they are still hiding in there igloo.Im also having problems with humidity and tempature. When i turn my light bulb on i have to keep misting the cage because the humidity is sucked away to fast but when i go to turn the light bulb off cause i have to go to school or to sleep the tempeture goes all the way down to 60 degrees Fahrenheit. i don't know how to keep every thing where its supposed to be at while I'm at school or asleep.Help me please.

ANSWER: Humidity could certainly be the culprit in their lack of activity.

Natural moss is your best option for creating a more stable humid environment.

Here's an article on my website about how to choose and prepare moss for your crabs.

You could also try a lower wattage bulb for your light if it is still burning too much of your humidity off during the day.

QUESTION: Thank you i was starting to think you never got my question...so is there diff. kinds of moss or just one.How do i use it??Do you no how long they are going to be stressed cause i need to clean my cage but i dont want to move them.

Answer
If you read the article it has all the information that you need including which type of moss to buy, where to buy it and how to prepare and utilize it in your tank.

You should not have to deep clean your tank this soon. Every 2-3 months is adequate for a 10 gallon, if they are in something smaller you should look into upgrading.
