Lesions on my baby guineapigs

Question
I purchased two male guineapigs from a local pet shop, two weeks ago. I noticed some hair loss on Alberts cheek then lesions appeared as though he had been scratching hard. He had small discharge from his nose and a crusty bit of skin inside his ear. I bathed him in a insceticidal shampoo and took him to the vet. The vet suggested that it may be a bacterial infection and gave him an injection with antibiotics in his water. A day later, his cage mate Arthur had a lesion just by his genital area which I have successfully treated with otodex cream and another appeared on his shoulder. They are eating and feeding really well but I am so worried about them. Can you suggest anything? I go back to the vet next week.

Answer
Hey Sara,

By the sounds of it, your guinea pigs have got some sort of skin-condition, which has been caused by some sort of bacterial infection. If the treatment the vet has given you seems to be working, then thats very good, and there is not much more that I can suggest. Even though new lesions keep appearing, it sounds like the condition is treatable.

As long as theyre still eating and drinking, they'll be fine. Perhaps the vet will prescribe some stronger medication when you go back.
