Female guinea pig biting companion

Question
We have two darling female guinea pigs, about 5 months old.  They were housed together in the pet store when we bought them, at about 6 weeks in age, and have been caged together at our home.  It has been clear from the start that one is the curious dominant pig and that the other is the passive quiet shy little girl, and they have not been seen fighting--they seem to enjoy each other's company--cuddling up together on our laps, popcorning, etc.  In the last week, we have noticed several sores on the passive pig--apparently bites from her companion.  The recent one is a round red/bloody spot on the cheek that is approximately 1/4" in diameter--perfectly round with the hair pulled out and the flesh raw.  The other we noticed after it had scabbed over.  Why would this be happening and can they stay housed together?  Should we treat the wounds with an antibiotic cream or just allow them to heal on their own?  Thanks.

Answer
hiya lisa, guinea pigs tend to bite each other if they have not got any hay. give them plenty of hay. if they seem fine together and cuddle then they should be ok to live together. if the biting keeps on happening i would take the victim to the vet to check the wounds and seperate them. i think that you should bath the open cuts but other wise, let them heal. i hope it stops. please contact me if you have any further questions.
