Question
Hi Brittany,

Thank you for the answer but sadly My Guinea passed away while I was at school.  I'm not really sure what to do and I don't really have any real closure becuase I wasen't with her when she passed away.  If I would have asked early I probably could have been able save her.  And If I would of, your answer would have been very helpful.  Thank you so very much.

Question -
My Guinea is having a bad case of diarrhea and shes lost weight, I've been giving her several baths every day and cleaning the cage everyday and hand feeding and giving her water by hand, all she does is sit in one spot so she gets poop all over her, thats why I give her the baths and hand feeding her. Shes been gaining very little weight but I was wondering what I should do?

Please write back as soon as possible,
Katherine

Answer -
Try giving her 1/4 tsp of children's Kaopectate once a day in a syringe, this will get rid of the diarrea, the only thing is she also needs to have whatever is causing the diarrea cured too. Diarrea can come from a sudden food change, salmonella, pseudotuberculosis, E. Coli and a few other not so common things. If she recently had spinach before she got diarrea she could have a case of E. Coli. The most common though would be a sudden food change. Does she have any other symptoms like drainage in the eyes, nose or lungs? Diarrea can also be a syptom of an Upper Respiratory Infection. Try to sponge bath just her bum area to avoid her getting a secondary cold with the diarrea, I have never had a case of diarrea that hasn't responded to the children's Kaopectate, and guinea pigs seem to like the taste.Keep her eating and drinking, and if possible use a syringe and give her unflavored Pedialyte with some guinea pig vitamins to help her gain back any nutrients she has lost. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Answer
I am so sorry she passed away, she was most likely too far gone though, there is only a certain point that you can help them, but I am sure she passed away peacefully. All you can do is just remember her for how good of a pig she was and move one eventually to get a new friend, believe me getting another piggy friend does help. Let me know if you ever have any more questions.
