Guinea Pigs Eyes

Question
Hi, Our guinea pig is 5 years old and I notice a white film that is creaping up along the edges of his eyes. Is this because of age or could it be something else. Thank You

Answer
Dear Irene
see if you can get hold of some Golden Eye Ointment from the chemist.
This is safe to use on your piggy.
If there is a bit of crustiness on the eyes, clean the area with warm salted water ( a pinch of salt ).
Use a bit of cotton wool ball dipped in the water to wipe across the eye,he will automatically close his eye and you will be able to wipe it clean
Apply a thin film just on the lower part where your eye liner would go,and work it into the eye by stroking gently. Your piggy will naturally close his eye and the ointment will get onto the eyeball.
Do this twice a day for 7 days and see if there is any improvement.
If there is no improvement please get back in touch with me.
