Question
This is my very first Guinea Pig and I think she is pregnant! Can you please tell me the signs & symptoms of a pregnant guinea pig? Her nipples popped out and are a little red, she is eating a lot more, drinking a lot more, she used to run around a lot and now she doesn't she just sits in one corner of her 'cabin' in her cage! She also bites me or tries to, when I touch her tummy or hold her on her tummy. Thanks! -Mikaela and Fay, the Guinea Pig (Her full name is much to long to write!)

Answer
Mikaela,

Fay is pregnant, all those that you just named are signs of a pregnant Guinea Pig. You should soon be able to see and feel the babies move that will put her at about 43 days along and almost ready to have them. As Guinea Pigs are pregnant for 62 to 73 days.

Start feeding Fay fresh foods with lot of vitamin C and calcium. As the C will keep her healthy, the babies healthy and keep her hormones from going all over the place. The calcium will keep her bones strong and the babies bones will be strong also. Fay is going to need the C and calcium from her foods until after she is done nurse the babies at 3 weeks old. Also start giving Fay alfalfa hay, this contains calcium and also is a little fatting which is good for pregnant, nursing and baby Guinea Pigs.

Take care now and if you have any more questions feel free to ask, as I'll be more then happy to answer them.
