seperating the dad

Question
hi, my guinea pig had two little babies last night and all went well which is great news.
straight after Doug (the farther) tried to mount poor mum so I removed him from the cage and put him in a large cardboard box till morning. He is now outside in his run while mums inside. Is it cruel to keep him in the box again tonight?? or should I bring the run inside until mum goes out of season again, (how long???) Also separating him will this affect how he bond with the babes?
(he was castrated on Wednesday this week, and I cant afford a new cage till next weekend.??) Plz help i don't want to be cruel to any of them because i love them all dearly.)
thank you

Answer
Hi Fran

Its advisable to keep the dad apart from the mum for 4 weeks after his operation.

However, when the babies reach 4 weeks old for boys and 6 for girls you could put the males with the dad and the girls with the mum, if you had one baby of each sex that is. Perhaps you could tell me what sex the babies were.
