Guinea-pig Glaucoma and cancer

21 14:05:30

Question
My four year old guinea-pig has been diagnosed with Glaucoma in one eye, he also has cataracts in both eyes so his sight is pretty bad, but he can still find his way round things with his friend. He has also probably  got malignant cancer although this is not certain yet, we are waiting for results from the lab to come back. He seems to be fine in himself and still eating and moving around normally.I was wondering if there was anything i could do to help his glaucoma and cancer apart from surgery?

He has a three year old female friend and i was wondering wether if we lost him what could be the best to do for her (get her another friend).

Thank you
Hannah

Answer
Hi
if the diagnosis has been made then its a case of time will tell. I would not put a piggy through surgery for this - its best to let nature take its course and when the times comes, take him to the vet to be euthanised. He will probably have a great life despite the diagnosis and may well surprise you with his inner strength!
As for his pal who is to be left alone, I would get another piggy as they need company. Either a NEUTERED male or another girlie about the same age or younger.
Take care and good luck
Mary
