squeaking guinea pig

Question
Hi,

Our guinea pig Jelly Bean is sitting with her face in the corner, apparently not eating, and uttering low-toned squeaks/noises (something like a quiet and slow parrot squawk). Her pellets appear to be wetter than usual -- not diarrhea because they are well formed, but somewhat darker and wetter.
Her cage mate Gin-Gin appears fine.
Any ideas as to what may be ailing Jelly Bean from this minimal information?
Any assistance you can provide would be very much appreciated.

Answer
Hi Peter.  Is Jelly Bean sitting in the same spot in the corner all day, and not eating at all?  If so, i would get her to the vet as this isn't a good sign.  Her noises and this behaviour says to me that something is causing her discomfort, even pain.  It may be that she has a bit of an intestinal problem, possibly a parasitic infestation in the gut which can cause upsets.  To be honest, as it's hard from not seeing her myself i would recommend you take her to the vet because she will most likely need prescription only drugs.  Depending on the ailment your vet may administer Baytril for infection, Ivermectin for parasite treatment and maybe Metacam for painkiller.  Take her along and see what your vet thinks of her condition.
Failing all that, do you think her teeth are okay?  Guinea pigs can develop malocclusion which is a bad condition when the molars and incisors overgrow and misalign.  Pigs can make an upset noise when it is bothering them, so ask to get her teeth checked out properly if the vet thinks her tummy is okay.  I hope this helps you!
