Question
Hi Kat
I hope u can help!
One of my pet piggy's has an URI (she is on a course of baytril). She sneezes and coughs occassionally but seems to doing it less and making a good recovery. She is active and is eating lots of her favourite foods.
But I'm now worried!! I heard her make what sounded like a whining noise similar to a dogs the other day when I was near her cage. I don't know whether it is a sign of her infection (getting worse?) or a noise guinea pigs can make.

Please help!

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Emma,

Dog-like whining is not a sound a Guinea Pig normally makes. It could be a sound of her infection. Mine do make whiney, squeaky noises if they get URIs. It doesn't neccessarily mean it is getting worse though. If she is still acting better, and not sneezing or coughing as much, and her nose isn't as icky, she's doing good. Keep an eye on her though just in case. You may want to run a vaporizer for her to help her breath a bit better and the whining noise may stop. If you don't have a vaporizer, taking a nice hot shower with her in the closed up bathroom with you will have the same affect. Good luck and I hope your piggy feels her best again soon.
