Sick Guinea Pig?

Question
Hi, I am concerned about my son's pig.  It is around 6 weeks old.   For the last day it has seemed to be less active and talkative.  It used to get excited when I would come home, open the refrigerator, rattle paper.  I could always get it to squeal/whistle.  Something just seems to be off.  It used to really run when you tried to pick it up and now it doesn't.  Just worried about what could be wrong.  Any ideas?   THANKS!  Tracey

Answer
Tracey,

It sounds like your son's Guinea Pig is a little on the depressed side and has gotten use to most of the handling.

Best advise is to give him extra attention. Maybe one or two little stuffed toys to play with. Guinea Pigs are group animals and so when having just one they need extra attention from the owners.

Watch the little guy, as long as he is eating, drinking, pooping normally, and is acting normal all around other then is not squeaking and running when you try to pick him up. Then nothing is wrong he is just depressed and needs extra love and attention.

I hope this helps,
      Take care now,
