Worried if I did not separate them sooner

Question
I got the male gp first.  He seemed lonely so we got a female.  She got
pregnant right away and now we have 4 more gp's.  I have made
arrangements to get all males neutered.  I left home at 11 am and came back
at 3pm and the babies were born. She was still wet as were the babies.  The
male was still in the cage with the mom and as soon as I saw that he was
trying to mount her I separated them.  Please let me know that she is not
pregnant again.  I don't want her pregnant again.  How do I know that she is
pregnant?  Will her milk stop if she is pregnant again?  I'm at wits end!!!
Thank you, Sandee

Answer
Hi Sandra,
Hopefully you separated them soon enough, but, unfortunately the female will breed and become pregnant shortly after birth. So it could have gone either way, it's impossible to know now.

I really hope you caught them in time, make sure to monitor the sow for any signs of pregnancy during the next few weeks.

No, her milk won't stop if she is pregnant again, she will still be able to care for the babies and raise them to be healthy guinea pigs, so you don't have to worry about that. Make sure to separate all males from her in three weeks(separate the father from her now) the male pups shouldn't be in the cage with the mom after they are three weeks old. If you get the male's nuetered than it's ok to put them in with her after you know that she is not pregnant, or after she is done raising her second litter.

I hope everything works out well and that you separated them in time!
