Question
my guinea pig will eat anything he can get his paws on. is he allowed to chew on ice? i accidently dropped a piece of ice in his cage and he took a bite out of it. when i found it and took it out, he started running around the cage looking for it.

Answer
Guinea pigs are grazing animals and need something to chew on to keep their teeth properly worn. Their teeth never stop growing, so they chew to keep them at a comfortable and functional length. Hay or hay cubes are excellent for this purpose.  If you can't supply hay even a piece of pine wood works well.

I can't see any reason he can't chew on ice if he likes it. He probably likes the cold as well as being able to crunch on it. It shouldn't hurt him a bit to have an ice cube now and then. And it's certainly cheaper than chew toys!
