sow s behavior

Question
Hi,
I have 1 neutered boar and 2 sows, one of the sows I rehomed 7 months ago,
for the past few weeks, I have noticed that my original sow,is bullying my rehomed sow, basically toffee will go up to Maisy (timid one)but as soon as she comes close maisy chatters and toffee backs down, but toffee lunges at maisy and nips her, especially if she wants to get past her,i see toffee lunging at her everyday, although never towards her face only neck down.and she sometimes won't let maisy come out of her pigloo for the food, maisy tends to grab some and go and hide with it.  Toffee seems to seek her out so she can have a go at her. Should I seperate them and get another neutered male for toffee? or is this normal behavior, worried maisy will hide away too much.all she seems to do is chatter at toffee,

Answer
Paula,

Maisy and Toffee would be better off being separated. Each Guinea Pig is different in personality so sometimes they don't get along with each other. Which is the case with your two.

It isn't normal dominance behavior (deciding who is to be the leader of the group), it is more like bulling and Maisy could get hurt if Toffee gets real aggressive and bits her instead of nipping at her, also with Maisy hiding away so much she may become dehydrated or not able to get enough food.

So yes, I would separate them and get another neutered boar to keep the other company.

Take care now,
