is it possibly a maturity or a pubirty thing because she has just reached 2 1/2 - 3 months old?

Answer
hmmm... she may need to take a dust bath to get rid of the extra oils that her skin is producing. If my hamster doesn't take a dust bath at least once a month his fur looks really greasy and funny looking. If you go to Petsmart you can buy critter dust. It's not very expensive and you pour the little bit of dust in a bowl and place your hamster in the bowl. It takes the hamster a while to realize what the dust is for, but it's a great way to get grease off of their fur.

I don't think it has anything to do with puberty, probably just extra oils that need to come and the dust bath helps a lot. I reuse the same dust and so it's really worth it. If they are out of critter dust you can always buy dust for chinchillas as a substitute.
