Keeping hamsters together

Question
I just bought two hamsters from the pet store.  I'm pretty sure they're both Syrian, as they're about six inches long.  And the woman at the pet store was pretty sure they were both male.  Now, they had spent most of their lives together, and they were used to being in the same cage.  She said they weren't territorial, and would be fine living together in the same cage.  I've been keeping them in the same cage, and I know they're full grown and less than a year old.  But, from everything I've read, I should separate them, I'm not sure what to do.  I don't want one of them to get hurt, and I'd get a new cage if I knew that would make them happiest.  I appreciate anything you can tell me.

Answer
This is why pet stores really need to educate their staff. The males wont have any spots on their tummy, and will have a visably protruding behind. The only reason the two are ok now is a matter of age. As they grow older they will begin to take over territory in the cage, and fights will break out. If they continue to live together, one will become dominant and force the other into living in a small area, and would fight them whenever they tried to eat, and all that bad stuff. I would highly recomend taking one back to the pet store, unless you have room for 2 SEPARATE hamster cages of adequate size.
