Question -
Hey.
I bought my hamster just today, and I'm really excited. He's living in the CritterTrail ONE, and is very cute! I have some queries though;

- How long before i should start trying to tame him? I occasionly go up to his cage and talk to him gently, and he runs up to the cage and stands on his back feet at me.

-He's chewing his cage. Is this okay, or should i do something about it?

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

You can start taming him now. It is great that you talk to him. I personally think hamsters like that. As far as chewing on his cage, this is normal. Do you have wooden chew sticks in his cage for him? If not, I would suggest getting some. (Wooden sticks can be purchased at any pet supply store or even wal-mart). This will help with the chewing on the cage and it is important that hamsters have something to chew on. This helps keep their teeth short. If their teeth get too long it will cause problems for him.

Thank you for your question and best of luck to you and your new hamster!

Answer
Hi Alex,

Yes you can start giving him treats like a small amount of diced apples(about 4-5 pieces,without the skin) and carrots or a hamster sweet stick. But no chocolate. Chocolate can be poisonous to your little furry friend just like with about any animal.
