Gray Hair Growth

I am not sure what type of hamster we have.  I think it is a Syrian but I am becoming concerned because it is starting to grow randoms tufts of gray hair throughout its coat.  It will not really let my inspect it very well.  Do you have any idea what it might be?

I've not heard of this before, but hamsters do often suddenly grow odd long pieces of hair or they lose their hair - this is often due to hormonal changes. Their fur does change as they get older.  Some coats tend to change colour too - especially golden and sable hamsters.  Perhaps it is just this.

Is his skin OK?  It's not flaky or sore or itchy?  Assuming there is nothing else going on healthwise with your hamster I would be inclined to think this could be hormonal.
