Question
QUESTION: My daughter, 4 years old, dropped her dwarf hamster and she broke here leg.  The hamster continues to run in the wheel and up into her maze.  She does not seem to be affected by her leg dragging behind her.  Is she in pain???  I do not want to euthanize her if she is not in pain.  Thanks.

ANSWER: Hello Patti,
if your hamster was in pain she wouldn't be on her wheel and in the maze so I don't think there's any need to put her to sleep when she's still being a curious little hamster. :)

QUESTION: That is what I also thought, but my husband just says its their instinct to run all the time.  Maybe I should take the wheel and maze out of her cage for a few days so she can rest.

Answer
Yeah, you might need to let her rest. If a hamster is in pain they will rarely move and will generally stay in one spot and sometimes go into shock. If she's acting fine and dragging her leg I'd throw in some tissue so she can have a little comfy bedding and take the wheel out.
