Question
hello my name is leah,
i have 2 winter white russian hamsters i recently got from petsmart they lived in the same cage. One named donnie and one named hammie. Hammie is the larger one and they often fight. Hammie always wins and Donnie sits there stiff and doesnt move.

I dont know if i should separate them. They dont fight THAT often but i do find them fighting alot.

Also Donnie has been acting strange his fur has changed i dont know if its the shampoo im using on him or in general hammies fur is nice and smooth and donnies doesnt look healthy.

Also donnie has not been drinking and it scares me. I have never once seen him drink.

what should i do? i have read about hamsters fighting some people say its normal some people say its alright i only want the best for them and i dont want to see donnie like this.

please help me i will appreciate it very much.
thank you
leah

Answer
I would definitely separate them. Male hamsters get very territorial. The reason Donnie isn't drinking maybe because his cage mate is too territorial. I once had this happen with two males, the more dominate one would not let the other one eat. Donnie could be a long haired hamster, their hair tends to look shaggy, and they are more likely to have hair loss.
