Question
I have a Female Dwarf Hamster and a Male I don;t know what kind that one is But Yesterday my female had 4 babies What should I do? And We can they leave the mother????

Answer
Hi Hannah,

You really should have thought about what to do before you even started thinking about breeding and definately before you decided to keep a male and female together in the same cage!!

There are so many things you should have thought about and researched before you let your hamsters breed!!

There is nothing you need to do now - the mother will look after the babies as long as she has plenty of fresh and food and water available.  You should remove the father now because the mother is probably already pregnant because she becomes receptive to the male and able to become pregnant again on the day she gives birth. So please be prepared to have another litter in about three weeks!

The current litter can leave the mother when they are about three or four weeks old, or on the day they mother gives birth again if she does have a new litter.

Regards,

Tammy
